What is unit 199?
Unit 199 is a Muslim Scouting America Unit based in Morrisvile, North Carolina. It is made up of:
- Troop 199B for boys ages 11-17
- Troop 199G for girls ages 11-17
- Pack 199 for boys & girls grades K-5
AN INTRO TO MUSLIM SCOUTING
Scouting is a movement that welcomes youth from all backgrounds, faiths, and cultures. To ensure an inclusive and enriching experience for Muslim scouts, it is helpful to understand basic Islamic principles, customs, and needs.
The Scout Law and Islamic values share many core principles that emphasize character development, service, and integrity.
For example:
A Scout is Trustworthy
Islamic Perspective: Honesty and trustworthiness (Amanah) are fundamental in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was known as “Al-Ameen” (The Trustworthy).
• The Quran says: “Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice.” (Quran 4:58)
• A Muslim is expected to be truthful in speech and actions, just as a Scout is expected to keep their word and be honest.
